March Playlist – Music To Put The Spring In Your Step

I mentioned back in January that I would be making some changes to the line up of regular blog posts that I write, letting go of the roundups of events that happen near me and thinking carefully about the posts that take a very long time to prepare. One of the things that I really enjoy doing is thinking about pieces of music that work well together – my children and I are always putting together playlists at home – for road trips, to celebrate the end of term, just because it’s a Friday. And I have decided that one of my regular features on this blog will now be at least one playlist of the month. Last month I had a blast listening to loads of songs from the movies to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and we did have this playlist on at home a few times over Valentine’s weekend. And as I am writing this post there is a definite feeling of Spring in the air, so I declare it time for a Music for Springtime playlist.

A small group of beautiful purple snowdrops in the centre of the picture with a couple of white snowdrops to their left. These lovely flowers appearing amongst the grass are the first signs of Spring I have seen.

Spring time is a time of re-birth and new beginnings. When you think of Spring, you think of new baby lambs, of pretty flowers emerging in your flower beds, of Easter and its bunny, of the daytimes getting longer and the promise of summer. It’s a joyous, hopeful time. And so my playlist, hopefully, reflects that.

I have chosen a mix of different genres (or styles) of music, mixing classical music (said with a small “c” to mean pretty much any music that came before jazz, rock and pop music) with jazz and pop music. When I started looking at the music I could add to this playlist I found so very much that I could have put in that I have had to heavily edit down my list. So if you have a favourite piece of music that reminds you of Spring and it’s not in my playlist, you will have to forgive me. There’s just too much to choose from. I start my playlist with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and Spring from that work, as it is the most obvious choice for a spring playlist. I have included the whole of Spring from The Four Seasons with the first 2 movements being performances of the work itself and the final movement being from a version of the work re-composed by Max Richter. I love this version of The Four Seasons and hope you do too. I go on from there with pieces very vaguely appearing in chronological order of period of Music History they date from, finishing off with a couple of songs that I and my children can’t help dancing and singing along to whenever they come on! All of the works included are family friendly and can be listened to with the whole family, so grab a cup of tea or coffee, snacks for the kids and have a listen. I include a link to my Spotify playlist for you to click on and it will take you straight to my Music To Put The Spring In Your Step playlist. I hope you enjoy it.

Without further ado, here is my playlist Music for Spring.
