Valentine’s Playlist – Songs About Love From The Movies

It’s blog post day and Valentine’s Day all rolled into one. So I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put together a playlist for Valentine’s Day – a playlist of songs for Valentine’s from the movies.

A gold wrapped chocolate heart on top of a serviette with shiny red, and pale pink hearts on.

Now, in putting this list together I have chosen mainly songs from musicals (I must admit that there is at least one piece of music on the Classical Music playlist that also comes from a movie). The songs can be sourced from YouTube- I think pretty much all of them can be found on YouTube (you may want to preview the songs before watching them together if you have very young children with you – or alternatively you could click on the Spotify playlist link at the bottom of this post.

For all of the songs I have chosen songs without any swear words (or curse words if you are in the US). They are songs that I feel you could listen to with your children, but of course you may feel differently to me (looking at you, song from Moulin Rouge). The films these songs have come from may not be suitable for young children to watch (I am so sorry Moulin Rouge, but I’m looking at you again. Though I personally would be happy with my 10 year old watching this film, partly because he would spend a lot of the film with his eyes and ears covered as soon as any “romantic bits” came on the screen!), but the songs should be fine for most, if not all, children to listen to. Having said that, you know your children and what they would be happy to listen to/what you would be happy for them to listen to. So if you are going to put the Spotify playlist I have put together on, please look through the list of songs below before you put it on to see if there are songs you would prefer to skip.

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. And yes, it is generally about romantic love. I don’t know about you but I always get my children a little gift at Valentine’s, and get them to join in with the celebration, because surely Valentine’s Day can be a celebration of all different sorts of love? Love for a romantic partner, love for your children or parents, love for your friends, for other family members. I love the idea of everyone joining in with Valentine’s Day.
